Part of the Serenity prayer’s success are the simple but powerful words it uses. Since then, it became one of the most popular prayers and traveled all across the globe, as it’s been translated into over 20 languages. The first printed copy appeared in 1936, although there is evidence of an earlier version from 1933. Reinhold Niebuhr, an American theologian, philosopher, and professor, is the author of the Serenity prayer. This gift is precious, and it's one that we can enjoy for a lifetime of serenity. The Serenity prayer’s purpose is to help those found in difficult moments find courage, wisdom, and peace of mind. People who live this prayer discover how to strike a dynamic balance between acceptance and change. It speaks wisdom to addicts and non-addicts alike. The Serenity Prayer is a wide door, one that's open to people of all faiths and backgrounds. By focusing on those two factors, we can attain the final quality promised by the Serenity Prayer: courage. However, we can influence our feelings through what we can control-our thinking and our actions. The prayer instead points us to examine our inner life: We cannot directly control our feelings. And the vicious cycle continues until the addict accepts that there will always be external circumstances that we cannot change. Ironically, the need to control may also be a response to the unmanageability caused by their out-of-control use of drugs. This strategy, too, is doomed to failure.Īn alcoholic’s quest for absolute control can lead to misery, which may contribute to substance abuse problems. Second is the attempt to control feelings by medicating them with mood-altering chemicals. First is an attempt to control the behavior of others, a strategy that addicts cling to despite its repeated failure. What blocks some alcoholics and addicts from achieving serenity is their intense desire to achieve a sense of absolute control-one that is simply not possible for human beings. In the book Alcoholics Anonymous (published by AA World Services), Bill described the core trait of alcoholics as self-centeredness-something he called "self-will run riot." He further described the alcoholic as "an actor who wants to run the whole show is forever trying to arrange the lights, the ballet, the scenery and the rest of the players in his own way." Bill's solution: "First of all, we had to quit playing God." The prayer’s message about acceptance echoes insights from Bill W., cofounder of AA. The Serenity Prayer accurately expresses a central problem of addiction and prescribes a timeless solution. Living the Serenity Prayer in Recovery from Alcohol or Drug Addictionįor many, the first verse of the Serenity Prayer serves as a daily touchstone, reminding us that to achieve serenity, we must approach each moment with wisdom and courage. The Serenity Prayer spread both through Niebuhr’s sermons and church groups in the 1930s and 1940s, and was later adopted and popularized by Alcoholics Anonymous and other Twelve Step programs. There it was credited to American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971). Many AA members were first exposed to the prayer in 1948, when it was quoted in the Grapevine, an AA periodical. The Serenity Prayer has been variously attributed to an ancient Sanskrit text, Aristotle, St. The full Serenity Prayer text has stronger religious overtones.Īlso there are conflicting accounts of the prayer's origin. There are several versions of the Serenity Prayer, each with slightly different wording that support groups have adopted. And, although the origin is thought to be Christian, the Serenity Prayer is applicable to your daily life regardless of religion or spiritual belief system. The Serenity Prayer meshes perfectly with the spirituality of AA's Twelve Steps. In fact, these 25 words are heard in most every AA meeting and widely taken as a succinct statement of a path to sanity and sobriety. Members of Alcoholics Anonymous have enthusiastically embraced this prayer-known as the Serenity Prayer-almost from the moment they discovered it. AA, the Twelve Steps and the Serenity Prayer So that I may be reasonably happy in this lifeĪmen. The Full Serenity PrayerĪccepting hardships as the pathway to peace Below, we provide the full Serenity Prayer along with an examination of its history, meaning and importance so that we all might carry its lessons closely and transform common hardships into a calming surrender. The Serenity Prayer serves as a focal point for the very spirit of AA, anchoring its members to its quintessential teachings about surrender and acceptance. Although its origins are a bit unclear, its impacts are not. This often used AA prayer is an excerpt from a longer prayer commonly attributed to Reinhold Niebuhr. God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, These simple words ring clear through the hearts and minds of Alcoholics Anonymous members across the world: Target_link_libraries(server PRIVATE asio)īut the issue with that, is that I get warnings about the ASIO implementation which I don't care about. I've started the SN30 Pro+ into the wrong input mode enough times for this to be frustrating, but in the Pro 2, it's as simple as setting the switch to the mode you want, pressing start, and then popping the controller into pairing mode (which is only needed the first time you're connecting to a new device). On the SN30 Pro+, starting into one of these modes requires you to hold the start button in addition to a specific face button. Like the SN30 Pro+, the Pro 2 comes with four different input modes: Switch, macOS, X-input (Windows), and D-input (Android). While the profile button is super useful and the rear buttons seem to be not only well made but well placed, it's that input switch I'm most interested in. With both hands on the controller and both index fingers on the triggers, my middle fingers fall perfectly on the rear buttons, so I'd say they're definitely placed well. The Pro 2's rear buttons are placed pretty far up the grip, so they aren't in the way and don't get inadvertently activated as a result. Usually with rear-facing buttons, I find that I'm hitting them when I don't actually intend to, perhaps as a result of gripping the controller during tense gameplay segments and forgetting they're there. The rear-facing buttons are pretty self-explanatory – they're two extra buttons you can map however you please – but I do want to note that I've accidentally hit these buttons a shockingly low number of times. The introduction of the profile button is great, but there are more changes when we turn our attention to the back of the controller, where there are two new rear-facing buttons, an input switch, and the battery compartment (which comes housing a rechargeable battery pack). If the goal is to have a controller that you can use between platforms with ease, the presence of that button definitely gets us closer to that goal being realized. You can also purchase extras for this controller like a mobile phone mount and carry case, which match the design of the 8BitDo SN30 Pro 2 Controller. With the Pro 2, however, you can just define three profiles once through the Ultimate Software app, sync them to the controller, and then swap through them whenever you want using that button. You can pick up one of these controllers for $89.95 AUD ($99.95 NZ or $49.95 USD). It also has rumble and the available colors provide some great options. While it doesn’t have the grippiest handles, and the “START” button is also the “ON” button, I love the lightweight feel of this controller. The back paddle buttons are in the perfect spot for gaming – at least for my tiny hands! SN30 Pro 2 controller I mapped mine for picking up items and switching builds. They need to be mapped but when holding the controller, your middle fingers naturally rest easy on these buttons. I certainly got away with some tanking in Elder Scrolls Online. While using the controller, the rebound on the triggers is relatively long, so this controller definitely suits RPG rather than FPS. It’s light, but still feels like you are holding a tactile piece of tech and not a piece of flimsy plastic. The SN30 Pro 2 controller is a good weight. One of the things I look for in controllers is how they feel in the hands while I’m gaming. Slide the switch for your desired device: By flipping the controller over, there’s a sliding switch which says SADX. Once you know how, it seems really obvious. Switching between devices however was not as intuitive as I thought, and I had to consult the manual for this one. I gave it a try on my Samsung Note and it worked a treat. The SN30 Pro 2 controller also works on everything from macOS, to Android and Switch. I’m on Windows, and that setup was fairly easy to get going. If it’s all paired up, the lights on the front will have stopped flashing and it’ll be all hooked up. Simply head to the Bluetooth settings on your computer, click the device, select “pair” and away you go. Once the controller is charged and ready, you’ll see the front controller lights flashing in sequence. There’s no additional batteries, no USB dongle, just the controller and a USB-C cable. Since it’s Bluetooth enabled, the only thing you’ll find when you unbox the controller, is the controller itself and a charging cable. The SN30 Pro 2 controller features Bluetooth connectivity. But as the United States plunged into the Cold War, the Middle East was too important to abandon. As a result, the United Kingdom and France dominated the region for two decades, and when they began to leave after World War II, the United States replaced them, rarely enthusiastically, and often reluctantly. With isolationist sentiments rising domestically after the war, the United States didn’t push back. Jon Alterman: As part of the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, the United States sponsored the King-Crane Commission, a 42-day trip to the region to investigate the Arab world’s potential for self-determination, but the entire exercise was stillborn.Įven before the United States had entered World War I, the United Kingdom and France had secretly agreed to divvy up the Middle East between themselves. They were coming from what they saw as an anticolonial background with promises of self-determination and the expansion of liberalism and democratic movements, and these were really embraced during that period. Of course, part of that was that they were not British. Karim Makdisi: The United States had a position of great promise-as far as the Arabs were concerned in the Middle East-coming in with the Woodrow Wilson era where there was so much welcome for American engagements in the Arab world and in the Middle East. According to Karim Makdisi, a professor of international relations at the American University of Beirut, that was welcome news in the region. Of those 14 points, he dedicated one to the former Ottoman territories in the Middle East. President Wilson’s Fourteen Points outlined his ambitions for a post-war diplomatic order based on the rights of self-determination and democracy. A century ago, coming out of World War I, the United States had big plans for the Middle East. government thought the choices would be easy. She represented the United States in countries recovering from civil war and countries fighting extended insurgencies, but to her, the Middle East forces some of the hardest choices on the U.S. Patterson was also ambassador to Pakistan, Colombia, and El Salvador, and she served at the United Nations. Anne Patterson: There’s no place where they clash more than in the Middle East-our values and our interests. It was great to see Stewie and Brian rescuing Meg because family doesn't care about Meg usually. However that's not the only great thing about this episode. Since this a parody of Taken, of course it's going to be action packed. #19 Leggo My Meggo - I've never seen Taken movie in my life (I want to see the movie tho) but I know this was a parody of Taken and man, it was awesome. My only thing that i didn't like in this episode was a long cutaway of Peter thinking of killing children. Also we've got a good climax at the last 5 minutes of this episode. While, they took suicide seriously, it also managed to be funny because it knew when to put a joke and when to not. The reason why this episode works is that it doesn't make fun of suicide and at the same time, it doesn't go too dark like Scream of Silence because this isn't 22 minutes of Joe commiting suicide. It's really hard to believe that Family Guy tackled this issue correctly because most of time, they make jokes about suicide (Mom's The Word, anyone). #20 #JOLO - Man, wasn't this a huge surprise for me? This was such a great episode that deals with suicide. He didn't learn anything from this expirence, yes but it was still great to see him feeling pain. Quagmire's Quagmire - It's good to see that Quagmire got his own medicine. It was really funny, violent and it was good to see Evil Stewie again, even though Evil Stewie was a clone and much more violent than Stewie. Meg's plot had some funny moments and Meg realized her mistake for framing Bonnie but the main reason why this episode is on honorable mentions list is that Stewie's plot was awesome. The Hand the Rocks the Wheelchair - This was more of a remake of Barely Legal episode and yeah, Meg was creepy in this episode but it still worked. Also Brian's speech to Meg really pissed me off. I've had the same problem with Brian Wallows and Peter Swallows as well. I mean Peter poisining himself with a homemade energy drink? I admit that the first half of Pter being energic was funny but it was really stupid. The way how they turn this episode to heartwarming was stupid. New Kidney in Town - I really wanted to include this episode on the list because this episode was really heartwarming and it actually made me cry and Peter and Brian's relationship was focused really well here. However, it is still weak, compared to other "Road to" masterpieces. Roads to Vegas - This was a way better "Road to" episode than Road to North Pole, it has a smart plot, funny jokes and some really dark twists that I really appericiated it. We also get a really good moral and some funny jokes. Ratings Guy - This was a really interesting one because we see what will happen If Family Guy was the neilson family. Lets start with honorable mentions first: I'm also excluding season 7 and 8 because Family Guy started to get modern with wide-screen just like every cartoon did in 2009 or 2010. Now the rules of this list is that I can't add season 4-6 into the list because even though season 4-6 seasons were flawed but really funny seasons IMO. I always say that even though modern Family Guy is so offensive, so mean-spirited and so lazy, I really can't hate this show because there were at times that modern Family Guy surprised us with some really funny and creative episodes. I can't believe there are 20 great episodes that I found in new generation of Fmaily Guy. I really wanted to do this list in a very very long time and I'm finally doing this. The name of the game with Cobalt Kinetics is speed and the system designed to help them with that is dubbed CARS. But there is more than meets the eye with Cobalt Kinetics, beneath the expertly machined aluminum lies highly advanced systems designed to aid you in crushing the competition and improve your times like nothing else. These rifles inspire the image of a weapon you would normally see being wielded by Transforming Robots or Space Spartans that are so bad-a** they need TWO adjectives of authority to make up their name. The G&G electronic trigger unit also increases the responsiveness of the shot and helps prevent trigger burns during rapid semi-automatic firing.Cobalt Kinetics rifles are known to be unorthodox and very unique in their own ways. The MOSFET is programmed to perform SEMI / FULL or SEMI / BURST firing selection (3 bbs). In the gearbox, the BAMF Cobalt Kinetics M4 AEG replica features a pre-programmed MOSFET capable of preventing LiPo batteries from over-discharging and being damaged. There is enough space to put a 7.4 V LiPo battery in the tube. Its stock is made of CNC aluminum and is held in place by a screw that you can remove to access the battery compartment (it fits into the butt tube). Its pistol grip is made of polymer and an ergonomic design that allows a better grip. The replica has a fire selector and an ambidextrous magazine ejection button. The official Cobalt Kinetics markings are engraved on the side of the replica! The body is CNC aluminum with a design very different from a traditional M4. Regarding the front of the replica, it has an M-LOK rail with picatinny rails on its lower and upper front. What can really catch your eye is the overall construction coupled with a unique gray and blue color design that dissociates this AEG from other M4 models in the field. If you are not a fan of the magazine that falls by itself, you can disable the function on the magazine so that it stays inserted when all the balls are expelled. Just like the steel version of this rifle, the automatic fall of its magazine provides the shooter valuable time for his next shot to reach his target. The G&G BAMF Team Cobalt Kinetics M4 AEG Assault Replicas is a fully licensed model that replicates an automatic fall from its charger when it is empty. G&G does not stop to surprise us with innovative products and unique products. New systems are developed in a spiraling approach as more is learned about the system, design changes are proposed and evaluated. The most important advance in system design is the development of modeling and simulation methods to predict complex performance before prototypes are developed. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight the perspectives of two UAV operators that helped to set the tone for the entire First Annual Human Factors of UAVs Workshop. The fact that operators have had first hand experience in operating UAVs provides a unique perspective to the problem of identifying the most pressing human factors issues. The experience of operators serves as a “user's account” of the issues and problems concerning the operation of UAVs. The involvement of UAV operators in the workshops was valuable in linking developers and human factors researchers in the improvement of UAV systems and operations – a practice that is too often implemented only after a system is deployed and the problems are found. An integral part of the event was the involvement of military UAV operators from the U.S. The Cognitive Engineering Research Institute's First Annual Human Factors of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) Workshop, held on May 24–25, 2004 in Chandler Arizona, and Second Annual Human Factors of UAVs Workshop, held on May 25–26, 2005 in Mesa Arizona, brought to light many human factors issues regarding the technology and operation of UAVs. The value of UAVs is recognized by other nations as well who have active UAV programs including, but not limited to, Germany, England, China, France, Canada, South Africa, and Israel. Marines pinned down by sniper fire in Najaf, Iraq ( CNN, 2005). UAVs or unmanned (or the more politically correct, “unpiloted” or “uninhabited”) Aerial Vehicles and the broader class of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) have attracted much attention lately from the military, as well as the general public. It is this group that truly inspired the workshops and the book. Last but not least, we wish to thank ROV operators, those who have attended our workshops, those who we have come to know only through anecdotes, and those who we will never know. We also thank the many individuals including Leah Rowe, Jennifer Winner, Jamie Gorman, Preston Kiekel, Amanda Taylor, Dee Andrews, Pat Fitzgerald, Ben Schaub, Steve Shope, and Wink Bennett who provided their valuable time and energy to assist with the workshops and this book. Thanks also to the sponsors of these workshops who include the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, NASA, US Positioning, FAA, and Microanalysis and Design. We would also like to thank the attendees of our two workshops on human factors of UAVs who shared their insights and scientific accomplishments with us as well as for those from the development community who conveyed to us the constraints and needs of their community. The editors of this volume would like to thank the authors whose contributions to this area have broken new ground for human considerations in a system that is often mistaken as unmanned. 2 cups water, frozen into ice (from one standard ice tray), plus an additional 2 cups filtered or tap water.Best suited for black and herbal teas, this method for making homemade iced tea requires only about 10 minutes time. The method yields a heady, full-bodied iced tea, instantly chilling the drink to keep bitterness in check. It follows the same brewing guidelines as Japanese iced coffee: Make a brewed concentrate (in this case of tea) using boiling water, then instantly dilute that concentrate with an equal amount of ice. If you’re after a more intense cup, or you simply need iced tea now, try this variation on the hot-brew approach. Strain the tea over a glass of ice.
